Clean up your mailbox
Find the senders that flood your inbox, unsubscribe from them and delete everything they sent. It all runs in this browser tabon your computer: your mail goes straight between your mail service and you.
Finish signing in in your browser, then come back here.
You sign in on Microsoft's own page, in your browser: your password never reaches this app.
Use your own app registration instead
Microsoft only lets an app read your mail after the app is registered. It's free and takes about two minutes.
- Open entra.microsoft.com, go to App registrations and click New registration.
- Name:
Mail Cleaner. Supported account types: Any Entra ID tenant + personal Microsoft accounts. - Redirect URI: pick Single-page application (SPA) and type
. Click Register. - Redirect URI: pick Public client/native (mobile & desktop) and type
. Click Register. - Copy the Application (client) ID from the overview page and paste it here.
No Microsoft Entra access with a personal account? Create a free Azure account first; it gives you a "Default Directory" where you can register apps.
Google only lets an app read Gmail through a Google Cloud project. Yours is free and takes about ten minutes, once.
- Open console.cloud.google.com
and create a project, for example
Mail Cleaner. - In APIs & Services, Library, find the Gmail API and click Enable. Do the same for the Google Drive API: the app only uses it to show how much storage you use.
- Open Google Auth Platform and click Get started: any app name, your email, audience External. Then in Audience, under Test users, add your Gmail address.
- In Clients, click Create client, application type Web application. Under
Authorized JavaScript origins add
. Copy the Client ID and paste it here. There's no secret to copy. - In Clients, click Create client, application type Desktop app. Copy the Client ID and the Client secret and paste them here. Google doesn't treat a desktop app's secret as a secret: it can't stay hidden in an app people download.
At sign-in Google warns that it hasn't verified the app: it's your own, so click Continue and allow what it asks. Google's sign-ins in a browser last an hour; after that the app asks you to click Continue.
Browsers can't connect to mail servers, so IMAP (Yahoo, iCloud, AOL, GMX, Zoho, your own domain...) only works in the desktop edition of Mail Cleaner, for Windows, macOS and Linux. Download it, run it and pick Other (IMAP) there.

Mail Cleaner is a free, open source app that cleans up Outlook and Gmail mailboxes. It groups your mail by sender, so you see at a glance who fills your inbox and how much space they take, and then lets you:
- unsubscribe from senders, using the unsubscribe link they put in their own mails;
- delete, archive or mark as read everything a sender sent, at any age;
- block senders, so their next mails go straight to the trash;
- read single mails, see how much storage your mail uses and empty the trash.
Why it needs access to your mail
To group your mail it reads the sender, subject, date, size, labels and unsubscribe headers of the mails in the folders you scan, plus the short preview your mail service provides. It opens a mail's full content only when you open that mail. It deletes, moves or marks mail, creates block filters and unsubscribes only after you confirm. With Gmail it also reads your storage quota, through a Google Drive permission that can't see your files.
All of this happens in your browser: Mail Cleaner has no server, and your mail is never stored, shared or sold. The privacy policy has the details.
Using Yahoo, iCloud or your own domain? The desktop edition for Windows, macOS and Linux also works with any IMAP mailbox.
